A couple of firsts...

1. First trip to the ER

Yep that's right, I got to take my four day old infant to the emergency room-one of the germiest places on earth. So, Sundaynight, I'm feeding little Carden, talking on the phone with a friend. He finished eating so I sat him up and he instantly threw up all over himself. I noticed the spit up was brown and then looked at his shirt and he had two dime-sized blood clots on it that he had thrown up as well. I probably wouldn't have worried as much over the brown spit-up, but the blood clots were kind of scary. So Josh and I rushed to the ER and me being a first time mom, didn't think to bring anything with me. No clean clothes, no diapers or wipes, no binky. We get there and they do some tests on him to make sure that the blood wasn't from him. And by tests, I mean the most painful things you could ever do to a baby. They needed a urine sample, so they had to insert a catheter. Carden screamed and screamed and I bawled and bawled the entire time. Good thing Josh was there. And then they needed a blood sample and not just a little bit from his heel. They had to get it from his arm and since his veins are practically invisible, it took a minute or two of digging around to find one. Again, me bawling and Carden screaming. We didn't even have a binky to help calm him. They also took an ex-ray which luckily was painless. All of the results came back fine-apparently the blood must have been from me, which is still kind of confusing to me, but oh well, at least he's doing fine. No more blood since then. And I've since decided I'm never going back to the ER because they like to torture babies over there. Kidding. The only good thing about was every female staff member there had to come over and tell me just how cute my baby was. Which, duh, of course he is!

2. First Bath

Poor Cards thought he was being totured again! It think it must be tough to be a baby.
He always crosses his fingers like that. Love it!

3. First ride in a car

So i'm pretty sure we have a basketball player here. He has huge hands and feet!

This one isn't a first, but I just thought it was cute. I can't forget about my other baby after all!

How scary. And I am sorry to tell you, but the worrying never stops. It gets better but especially when your kids are sick in anyway or do anything that seems the least bit abnormal...you panic. Glad that everything is better and everyone is okay. I seriously think he is so dang cute!

Oh...poor little Carden. I'm glad he's ok though. He really is pretty stinkin' cute! By the way, here is the link to the store I told you about for blessing clothes: http://baby.crismons.com/. They are in Mesa on Baseline.

That's a relief! Weird that it came from you, though. It gets better...every time your first child cries you freak out. And when your second child cries, you laugh :) It's not that you become a sadist, but they cry so much, and you realize just how cute they are when they're super small and upset :)

What? What a crazy night for you guys. My doctor did actually warn me about that when she was sending us home, so we could look for it. They said that Gwen will most likely have a "baby period" and that she could possibly spit up some blood, and they were both from me. Who knew? She never did spit up any blood tho, but did have a "baby period", so weird! Glad baby Carden is doing well :)

Oh my gosh! Everything is so scary with a baby and it hurts so bad to see them cry in pain. I'm glad everything is okay. He's so cute. I can't wait to meet him.

Thinking something is wrong with your babies is THE scariest feeling ever. I had to take a day off work once when Lucas fell on the tile and passed out. (Turns out he wasn't hurt but he was one of 5% of kids who hold their breath and pass out. Pretty freaky way for me to find out. I thought he was dead.) I was so shaken up. Turns out if we ever have a real emergency I am NOT the one to handle it. Anyway, about the blood from you. Lucas did the same thing. This is part of the breastfeeding nightmares that some of us go through. Remember to use lanolin! When he was drinking he actually sucked some blood from the (I've been thinking about how to say this but I'm just going to blurt it out. There is no other way to say it.) nipple. It takes awhile for them to get toughened up and they can get pretty cracked and painful. HERE IS THE POINT! My doc said to keep some Pediasure on hand. If it ever happens again you can feed him a bottle of that and because it is clear you will be able to see if the blood is coming from him or you. It worked for me. Hope it helps. Love ya!

CONGRATULATIONS!! There is nothing like the firsts especially with the first baby. Just enjoy every second, it is so fun!! Im glad that everything was fine with the blood, but seriously I absolutely HATE taking my kids the the ER, I really think that they torture them. Its so stressful being a parent but oh so rewarding (at least most of the time)

It is so awful to watch your baby so so sad especially when your hormones are so out of whack, but I don't think it is ever going to be fun to see a sad child. Everyone has totally forgotten the binky among other things before. This is why I created my own B list that I really use every single day, even still. It may be related to the Speech therapist in me. You can be the judge. Here is the list... Binky, Blanket, Bottle, Burp rag, Bag (diaper bag), Bjorn, and Baby. The Bjorn is not part of the core list, but everything else always goes with us now.

wow that last picture looks all too familiar. Eventually you will kick Maggie off and she will sit beside you instead of on top. And then When Carden moves Maggie will be in the other room. Zoey is terrified of Presley.

and could you please stop torturing that poor boy. Hes going to grow up with a complex.

Congratulations on your new baby Lars. He is beautiful and so precious.
I remember wishing I had an owner's manual with my first one. Better save than sorry :)
And by the way, I love the name you chose. Does it have any special meaning?
Please call if you need anything!!!

CUTE CARDEN!!! Oh my goodness I have only heard good things. Boy I am so happy for you guys... well except for the terrible ER visit. What a terrible experience for everyone involved. :( It's a good thing that little guy doesn't remember it, don't ya think? Keep up the good work!
